    That weirdness in their past is part of what I always thought was provocative about their relatio1hip. Whether it was the age difference or the bad way he handled leaving or his “in denial” way of justifying it, the fact that he was capable of such a mistake was a pretty bold approach for a hero and seems to better fit the original concept of the character as a “grave robber”. They both play their parts so well as individuals clearly still hurt by giving in to a mistake that his romances with other characte1 never carried the same weight. I love the whole franchise, but Jones did become more idealized over time and less the scrapper that used to cheat in fights and leave his girlfriend tied up to go retrieve a treasure and frankly that’s where the sequels are inferior to the original masterpiece.
